How to Hike Lilienstein from Dresden by Train & Ferry

Getting there from Dresden
The easiest way to reach Königstein is by taking the S-Bahn Line 1 train. (approx. 40 minutes, €9.50 from Dresden Hauptbahnhof). From the same station, you can also hike to Pfaffenstein and the Barbarine — both are doable in one long day. You can buy train tickets from the ticket machines at the station or in advance online from Deutsche Bahn.
Ferry crossing (important)
To reach the Lilienstein trail, you must cross the Elbe river by ferry. The ferry runs frequently throughout the day and costs about €2. You can check the current departure times online:

Tip: The ferry can get busy on weekends – expect a short wait.
Which route to take: North or South ascent?
After the ferry, turn left and follow the signs to Lilienstein.

South Ascent (Südaufstieg): longer, easier, better for beginners
Both routes lead to the summit – choose based on your fitness level.
The final section to the summit includes sturdy steel stairs. Once at the top, you get one of the best panoramic views in Saxon Switzerland, including the Elbe river and surrounding sandstone formations.
At the top, you’ll find the traditional mountain restaurant Felsbaude Lilienstein. It is usually open in the afternoons during the season.
