Maribor to Ptuj by Bus – An Easy Day Trip
Last update: September 2026
I walked to the bus station in Maribor, which is right next to the railway station. The building is pleasantly bright thanks to its glass roof. There is also a ticket office in the middle of the hall, where you can buy your ticket. The staff speak English, so everything was easygoing.
Tickets can also be bought online via Arriva. You can also buy them directly from the driver, either with cash or by card.
I arrived at the bus station about 15 minutes before departure. At the platforms, monitors show information about the next departures. My bus left from platform 09.
The bus was about half full, so the journey was comfortable. It was clean and well air-conditioned. The route passes through suburbs and villages, with the bus stopping in every village along the way. Despite the many stops, you still make good progress.
The journey from Maribor to Ptuj took 51 minutes.
The bus arrives directly at the bus station in Ptuj. From there, the old town is less than a five-minute walk away, so getting into the centre is very easy.
Returning from Ptuj
For the return journey, I simply went back to the bus station in Ptuj. There is approximately one bus every 30 minutes.
This time, I bought my ticket directly from the driver and paid the €4 fare in cash.
The railway station is right next to the bus station, so taking the train would also be an option. I chose the bus simply because it was more convenient for me.
The return journey took 45 minutes.
