Ljubljana City Centre to Ljubljana Airport by Bus (and Back)

Last update: August 2026

In short: Arriva runs coaches between Ljubljana bus station and Brnik/airport Ljubljana. A ticket bought from the driver costs €4 in either direction. Scheduled journey time is 30 minutes; both of my rides took longer. Buses to the airport leave from stand 28.

Finding the bus

The bus station sits directly next to the railway station. Be aware that the railway station is currently a large construction site — factor that into your timing, especially if you are arriving by train and changing to the bus.

Departures to the airport use stand 28.

Tickets

I bought mine from the driver for €4. Payment was accepted in cash (euros) and electronically. Arriva notes that tickets bought in advance may cost less than tickets bought on the bus, so if you want to save a euro, buy ahead through their site.

The bus

A standard intercity coach, not a city bus. Luggage goes in the hold underneath. The air conditioning was working well. There is no Wi-Fi on board.

The ride

My bus was completely full and boarding took 25 minutes — with a hold to load and everyone paying at the door, this is the part travellers underestimate. Once moving, it took 18 minutes to clear the built-up area of Ljubljana, after which the run on the A2 motorway was smooth and quick.

Total journey time: 34 minutes, against a scheduled 30.

Arrival at the airport

The bus pulls up on a car park directly in front of the terminal. From there you cross at the pedestrian crossing and walk to the terminal building, where departures for Terminal A and Terminal B are clearly signposted.

Departures (checked August 2026)

05:10 · 06:10 · 07:10 · 08:10 · 08:30 · 09:10 · 09:30 · 10:10 · 10:30 · 11:10 · 11:30 · 12:10 · 12:30 · 13:10 · 13:30 · 14:30 · 15:30 · 16:30 · 17:10 · 17:30 · 18:10 · 18:35 · 19:10 · 19:30 · 20:10

Roughly every half hour through the morning and early afternoon, then hourly from 13:30 until 17:10. The last bus of the day leaves at 20:10 — if your flight is late in the evening, this is the departure to plan around.

Finding the bus

Ljubljana Airport is modern and easy to read. Leave the building at Departures. The bus stop is in front of the terminals, with a shelter and a ticket machine. Inside the shelter there is a sign explaining how to buy a ticket.

This stop serves several destinations, and buses from different lines pull in here, so check where each one is going. I simply waited until a bus for Ljubljana arrived.

Tickets

The machine had a queue, so I bought from the driver instead. In this direction the driver took card only — no cash. The fare was €4. If you already hold a ticket, show it to the driver as you board.

The bus

Again a coach, with luggage stowed in the hold. Comfortably air conditioned, no Wi-Fi.

The ride and arrival

40 minutes, against a scheduled 30. The bus terminates at the railway and bus station in the city centre. There is no fixed bay — you get off wherever the bus can pull in.

Departures (checked August 2026)

06:06 · 07:46 · 10:00 · 10:31 · 11:31 · 12:31 · 13:00 · 13:31 · 15:05 · 16:31 · 18:31 · 19:00 · 19:31 · 20:31 · 21:00

Note the gaps: nothing between 07:46 and 10:00, nothing between 16:31 and 18:31. Last departure 21:00.

What to know before you go

  • €4 from the driver, in both directions. Advance purchase may be cheaper.
  • Payment is not consistent. Going out, the driver took cash and card; coming back, card only. Carry both.
  • Allow more than the scheduled 30 minutes. Neither of my rides matched the timetable, and on a full departure, boarding alone took 25 minutes on top.
  • No Wi-Fi in either direction.
  • Live timetables: city → airport · airport → city

FAQ - Quick Guide

Take the Arriva coach from stand 28 at Ljubljana bus station, next to the railway station. The ride to Brnik/airport Ljubljana is scheduled at 30 minutes and costs €4 when bought from the driver.

€4 per person, paid to the driver, in both directions. Tickets bought in advance through Arriva may cost less than tickets bought on board.

Arriva schedules 30 minutes. My ride into the airport took 34 minutes and the return into the city took 40, so allow more than the timetable suggests.

From stand 28 at the main bus station, which is directly beside the railway station. The railway station is currently a large construction site, so allow extra time to find your way through.

It depends on the direction. Going to the airport, my driver accepted both euro cash and card. Coming back from the airport, the driver took card only and refused cash. Carry both.

The last departure from Ljubljana bus station is 20:10. In the other direction, the last bus from the airport to the city leaves at 21:00.

On a car park directly in front of the terminal. You cross at the pedestrian crossing and walk in, where Terminal A and Terminal B departures are signposted.

No. Neither of my buses had Wi-Fi. Both were standard intercity coaches with air conditioning and luggage stowed in the hold.

No. I bought both tickets from the driver without booking. Advance purchase is optional and may be cheaper, but the queue at the airport ticket machine is a reason to buy on board rather than to book ahead.
