Buying the ticket in Ljubljana

I bought my ticket at the station. When you enter the old building, the ticket counters are on the left — separate ones for domestic and international tickets. The staff are very friendly and speak good English. I paid €15.40 for a return ticket, by card. The ticket covers both legs of the journey.

Ljubljana station

The station and the area around it are currently one huge construction site, so allow extra time. Some platforms are already finished, and the lift was working.

First leg: train LPV2408

The journey from Ljubljana to Jesenice takes about an hour and a quarter. You change trains there — a member of the train crew kindly reminded me during the journey.

The train is clean and pleasantly air-conditioned. There is WiFi, and power sockets under the seats.

Changing in Jesenice

There were no signs at the station, and the train number did not match the one on my ticket. I asked the conductor on the platform whether this train went to Lake Bled — it was the right one.

The pedestrian tunnel was dirty and damp. The stairs are long and hard work with a lot of luggage; I did not see a lift or a ramp.

Arriving at Bled Jezero

The journey from Jesenice takes 15 minutes.

The platforms at Bled Jezero are very narrow, so take care when getting off. The station itself is wonderful: there is a waiting room, a restaurant and a toilet — and all of it is actually open and in use. Small stations are often abandoned.

From the station you simply walk downhill towards the lake. An easy five to ten minutes brings you to the lakeside path.

Going back

Trains back to Jesenice run roughly every two hours, and a display at the station shows the next departures. Do not take the last one — leave yourself a buffer in case something goes wrong with the connection. According to potniski.sz.si, the final departures are at 20:20 and 21:46, but please check this yourself before you travel. You can spend the wait in the station restaurant, which is well run.

Remember that the walk back up to the station is uphill. It took me five minutes.

My train to Jesenice was ten minutes late. When the staff checked my ticket, they told me the connection to Ljubljana would wait in Jesenice.
