How to Hike Lilienstein from Dresden by Train & Ferry

Lilienstein is one of the most iconic table mountains in Saxon Switzerland National Park. Located near Königstein, it offers panoramic views over the Elbe Valley and is one of the most rewarding hikes near Dresden.

Coming from Dresden

The easiest way to reach Königstein is by taking the S-Bahn Line 1 train. (approx. 40 minutes, €9,20 from Dresden Hauptbahnhof)

Crossing with the ferry

The ferry terminal is located right next to the station, and the ferry operates from early morning until late in the evening. After crossing the ferry, turn left and follow the signs. At this point, you can choose between two routes:

From here, you can choose between the North Ascent (Nordaufstieg) or the South Ascent (Südaufstieg) to climb up the Lilienstein. I followed the North Ascent, but whichever route you take, you can’t go wrong.

The final meters to the summit are via sturdy steel stairs. At the top, you are rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view of the Saxon Switzerland National Park.
There is also a traditional mountain restaurant, Feldbaude Lilienstein which is open in the afternoons during the season. It’s best to bring cash for payment, as card options are limited.
