Traveling by Bus from Delphi to Thessaloniki – My Experience

The bus connection from Delphi to Thessaloniki is a straightforward way to travel through Greece without renting a car. Although a transfer is required along the way, the journey went smoothly and was well organized. I traveled this route myself and will walk you through step by step how the trip works.

Travel Time and Costs

I paid €38.50 for my trip from Delphi to Thessaloniki. The entire journey took about 4 hours and included a transfer in Amfissa.

The connection consists of two sections:

• Delphi → Amfissa (regional KTEL bus)
• Amfissa → Thessaloniki (long-distance bus)

Where to Buy the Ticket in Delphi?

Tickets in Delphi are not sold at a traditional bus station. Instead, the ticket office is located inside the restaurant "In Delphi" on Apollonos Street.

Tickets for regional KTEL connections are also sold there. I bought my ticket one day before departure, which is especially recommended during the high season.

Finding the Bus Stop in Delphi

The actual bus stop is just a few meters to the right of the restaurant. If you are expecting a larger bus station, you will be surprised at first. The stop consists of nothing more than an inconspicuous entrance with a vertical "BUS STATION" sign on the wall.

At first glance, the setup seems a bit unusual, but it is actually the regular KTEL stop for departures to Amfissa.

From Delphi to Amfissa

The first part of the journey is on a smaller regional bus. This serves as a feeder to the bus station in Amfissa, where travelers transfer to the long-distance connection to Thessaloniki.

The ride is relaxed and offers beautiful views of the Central Greece landscape along the way.

Transferring in Amfissa

Many travelers worry about the transfer, but this part of the journey was completely uncomplicated.

Upon arrival in Amfissa, the station staff provide friendly assistance. I was immediately told from which platform the long-distance bus to Thessaloniki departs.

The bus station in Amfissa is very small and easy to navigate. This makes it practically impossible to miss the connecting bus or get lost.

Before boarding the long-distance bus, your ticket is checked. After that, luggage is stowed in the baggage compartment of the bus.

Arrival at Thessaloniki Makedonia Bus Station

The journey ends at Bus Station Makedonia, the central long-distance bus terminal of Thessaloniki.

The station made a modern, clean, and well-organized impression on me. Despite its size, it is easy to find your way around, and the most important areas are well signposted.

Right in front of the terminal are the city bus stops. This makes it easy to continue your journey into the city center.

For my ride into the city center, I bought a ticket for €2 directly on the bus from a ticket machine. This made it possible to continue my journey without any additional preparation.

Conclusion

The bus connection from Delphi to Thessaloniki is a simple and reliable way to travel between the two cities. Buying tickets in Delphi is organized somewhat unusually, but it works without any problems. The transfer in Amfissa is also very easy thanks to the small bus station and the helpful staff.

With a travel time of around 4 hours and only one transfer, this connection is excellent for independent travelers who want to explore Greece by public transport.
