  • Standing guard at the mouth of the Motlawa River, the ancient Hanseatic port city of Gdansk is a city break favourite amongst European travellers. Brimming with over 1,200 years of history, Gdansk is not only a worthy destination in itself, but also the gateway to the Pomeranian coast and countryside.

Amongst its many accolades, Gdansk has the convenience factor that every successful city break destination needs: it’s easily accessible. Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport (GDN) has grown into Northern Poland’s low-cost hub, with regular affordable flights to and from every corner of Europe. Better still, getting from the airport to the city centre to start your Gdansk city break couldn’t be easier.

How to Reach Gdansk City Centre from Lech Walesa Airport (GDN) by Public Transport

    By Train

One of the quickest and easiest ways to travel between Lech Walesa Airport and Gdansk is to take the train. Local “PKM” (Pomeranian Metropolitan Railway) trains take around 35 minutes to complete the journey to Gdansk Glowny, the city’s main and most central railway station. The airport station is clearly signposted from Arrivals in both Polish and English- it’s barely a minute’s walk away.

Until recently, a change of trains was required at Gdansk Wrzeszcz. The good news is that direct trains have been reinstated as of 2025. That said, direct trains are infrequent and if your flight arrival doesn’t fit with the train timetable, you will still need to change at Wrzeszcz. Don’t worry if you do; transferring is an easy process, and you’ll rarely be waiting more than 10 minutes between trains.

Tickets start from 7PLN (€1.65) each way and can be purchased from ticket vending machines at the train station. You can also purchase tickets online, but there’s no real benefit to doing so.

Between 0500 and 2200, bus line 210 connects Lech Walesa Airport with the Dworzec Glowny (main bus station) up to every 30 minutes. If you’re arriving on a late night flight, you’ll need to take night bus N3 which provides an hourly service. Both journeys take just under half an hour to reach the city centre.

Single ride tickets cost just 4.80PLN (€1.15). Purchase yours from vending machines at the bus stop or on a mobile app. Confusingly, there are several apps you can download. These include Fala, GoPay and mobile. If Gdansk isn’t the first Polish city on your trip, the chances are you’ll already have one downloaded. If not, follow this link to download one to your device.
