Gdansk Airport to City Centre: Train, Bus & Taxi (2026 Guide)
The easiest way to get from Gdansk Airport to the city centre is by train. It takes around 35 minutes and costs just €1.65.
Standing guard at the mouth of the Motlawa River, the ancient Hanseatic port city of Gdansk is a city break favourite amongst European travellers. Brimming with over 1,200 years of history, Gdansk is not only a worthy destination in itself, but also the gateway to the Pomeranian coast and countryside.
Amongst its many accolades, Gdansk has the convenience factor that every successful city break destination needs: it’s easily accessible. Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport (GDN) has grown into Northern Poland’s low-cost hub, with regular affordable flights to and from every corner of Europe. Better still, getting from the airport to the city centre to start your Gdansk city break couldn’t be easier.
How to Reach Gdansk City Centre from Lech Walesa Airport (GDN) by Public Transport
By Train
One of the quickest and easiest ways to travel between Lech Walesa Airport and Gdansk is to take the train. Local “PKM” (Pomeranian Metropolitan Railway) trains take around 35 minutes to complete the journey to Gdansk Glowny, the city’s main and most central railway station. The airport station is clearly signposted from Arrivals in both Polish and English- it’s barely a minute’s walk away.
Until recently, a change of trains was required at Gdansk Wrzeszcz. The good news is that direct trains have been reinstated as of 2025. That said, direct trains are infrequent and if your flight arrival doesn’t fit with the train timetable, you will still need to change at Wrzeszcz. Don’t worry if you do; transferring is an easy process, and you’ll rarely be waiting more than 10 minutes between trains.
Tickets start from 7PLN (€1.65) each way and can be purchased from ticket vending machines at the train station. You can also purchase tickets online, but there’s no real benefit to doing so.
By Bus
Gdansk has an excellent city bus network. They’re cheap, comfortable, safe and most importantly, frequent. Between 0500 and 2200, bus line 210 connects Lech Walesa Airport with the Dworzec Glowny (main bus station) up to every 30 minutes. If you’re arriving on a late night flight, you’ll need to take night bus N3 which provides an hourly service. Both journeys take just under half an hour to reach the city centre.
Single ride tickets cost just 4.80PLN (€1.15). Purchase yours from vending machines at the bus stop or on a mobile app. Confusingly, there are several apps you can download. These include Fala, GoPay and mobile. If Gdansk isn’t the first Polish city on your trip, the chances are you’ll already have one downloaded. If not, follow this link to download one to your device.
Alternative Ways to Reach Gdansk City Centre from Lech Walesa Airport
A handy alternative to using public transport upon arrival at Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport is to take a taxi. There is a taxi rank located directly outside Arrivals, but you can book in advance for added convenience. The official airport taxi partner is Neptun Taxi. Like all taxis in Gdansk, they are strictly regulated and fares are metered.
The price you pay will depend on when you travel. As in much of the world, fares are higher at night, on Sundays and on bank holidays. Expect to pay in the region of 90PLN (€21.25) for a daytime ride to the Old Town.
Rideshare apps are also available in Gdansk. Uber and Bolt are the most popular and are often far cheaper than traditional taxis. Rides to the city centre can be had for as little as 40PLN (€9.50), but as ever, they do vary with demand.
If you’re planning on exploring the wider Pomerania region during your time in Poland, hiring a car may prove worthwhile. Many of the main tourist sites such as Malbork Castle and the Hel Peninsula are some distance from Gdansk and, whilst possible by public transport, are far easier to visit if you have your own wheels. It is worth checking if you hotel in Gdansk has parking, though, as some properties in the centre of the Old Town do not.
Dozens of rental car agencies have branches at Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport, including worldwide names like Enterprise, Hertz and Sixt, along with a number of local companies. Car hire in Poland is exceptionally cheap and you can pick up bargains from as little as €3 per day if you book in advance.
Which Option Should You Choose?
If you arrive during the day, take the train – it's fast, cheap and easy.
