Tallinn Airport to City Centre by Tram T2: Tickets, Validation and Travel Time
Tram T2 connects Tallinn Airport with the city centre in about 20 minutes. It stops right at the terminal, and a single ride costs €2.
Buying a ticket
I bought a QR ticket in advance at https://tallinn.pilet.ee/en/home. It's quick and easy, and you can pay by credit card or with several other payment services.
If you don't want to buy a ticket beforehand, you can simply tap your contactless bank card on the validator when you board. You can also use the Ühiskaart, Tallinn's public transport card, which you can buy and top up at the R-Kiosk in the arrivals area.
A single ride costs €2, and a QR ticket is valid for one hour. Current fares: https://www.tallinn.ee/en/mobility/public-transport
Validating your ticket
The scanners for QR tickets are always at the front next to the driver, so get on the bus or tram through the front door. You'll recognise the scanners by their small optical reader. If you pay with the Ühiskaart or a bank card, just tap it on any validator.
From the city centre to the airport
I started at Balti jaam, the stop right next to the main railway station. I chose tram T2, because a tram is always quick and direct, and the T2 stops right in front of the terminal. You step off under a roof and are inside the airport within seconds.
Tram T4 and buses 47, 49 and 65 also go to the airport.
Inside the tram, screens show the upcoming stops and how long it takes to reach them. The ride took about 30 minutes and cost €2. Once you're there, the airport has free Wi-Fi.
From the airport to the city centre
The terminal is small and easy to find your way around. Just follow the "Public Transport" signs. Ticket machines are right in front of the exit; they have an English menu and accept cards. You can of course also buy your ticket online in advance.
Buses run into town as well, but the tram is the most direct and comfortable option. The T2 crosses the whole city and stops at many places that are useful or interesting for visitors: https://www.visittallinn.ee/eng/visitor/ideas-tips/tips-and-guides/trams-in-tallinn-t2
It took me 19 minutes to reach the Rotermann stop, and the fare was €2. Timetables: https://transport.tallinn.ee/#tram/en
Long-distance buses
Some long-distance buses also stop at the airport, for example Lux Express on the routes Tallinn–Tartu and Tallinn–Tartu–Võru. There's a separate ticket machine for them inside the terminal.
